Nasro Ahmed
Nasro Abdirizak Ahmed is a journalist from Somalia. She has worked for local, national and international media since 2017. Until 2011, she was director of Radio Garowe. She then worked for BBC Media Action Somalia, where she fulfilled various roles, such as scriptwriter for series, as trainer/mentor and also as program producer.
Moreover, Ahmed is a media activist and media trainer. She founded and leads the non-government organization Woman in Media Initiative Somalia (WIMISOM) which advocates for female journalists. Ahmed also founded the Milgo Media Network (MMN), a newly established media center that operates a radio and television channel and social media platforms. She is involved in social issues, fighting against gender-based violence as well as against the climate catastrophe, she advocates for goals such as good governance. Her main goal is to change the lives of the Somali people for the better through media. From her point of view, press freedom is essential for this.
Due to the increasing risks for journalists on the internet, Ahmed is happy to be part of the Berlin Scholarship Program and to learn about effective strategies to protect herself in the digital sphere. She is very aware of their importance and is looking forward to passing on what she has learned to her colleagues in Somalia through workshops.
