Ekaterina Ivashchenko

Ekaterina Ivashchenko is an independent journalist from Russia whose work focuses on the countries of Central Asia.

She began her career in 2007 in Kyrgyzstan, where she covered significant events in the country and the region in the political, economic, and social spheres.

In 2016, Ekaterina moved to Moscow, where she became a leading journalist reporting on the issues faced by migrants who come to Russia for work. She has written for both independent Russian and international media.

Ekaterina also writes about Turkmenistan, to which she has dedicated over 30 comprehensive articles, one of the most closed countries in the world, consistently ranking at the bottom of international indices for corruption and freedom of speech.

Ekaterina also participates in socially significant projects. She is a member of the Regional Expert Group Council on Migrant Health and writes articles as well as conducts training sessions on public health and HIV.

In 2014, Ekaterina became a participant in the Reham al-Farra Memorial Journalism Fellowship program, and in 2017, the World Press Institute.

Among increasing control over journalism and constant suppression of freedom of speech, Ekaterina pays special attention to the principles and methods of digital security. For her, the Berlin Scholarship Program is a unique opportunity to study modern methods of information security and exchange professional knowledge with world-class experts.
